The Club currently has approximately 1800 members, consisting of lawyers and judges primarily from the Atlanta metropolitan area. There are three classes of membership: Resident, Non-Resident, and Life. Resident members reside or maintain offices in the Metropolitan Atlanta area, as that term may be defined from time to time by the United States Census Bureau. Attorneys who reside in other counties within Georgia or other states are considered Non-Resident members. Associate Membership may be available for members not admitted to the Georgia Bar, and Life Membership is for any member who has attained the age of 70 and has been a member for at least 20 consecutive years. Please review the Club's Bylaws for other details on Life Membership status.
The Club has regular dinner programs eight times per year. Dinners are typically on the third Wednesday at the Downtown Capital City Club. These functions alternate between dinner programs and cocktail and hors d’oeuvres receptions. Dinner programs begin with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by brief comments from a guest speaker (sometimes including questions and answers). Adjournment is normally between 7:45 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Months with cocktail and hors d’oeuvres receptions begin at 5:30 p.m. The monthly dinner programs and cocktail and hor d’oeuvres receptions are for members only and are included in your membership at no additional cost. Dress is business casual.
Enjoy intimate wine tasting events, whisky tasting events, TV watch parties, roving happy hours at local establishments and group outings at sporting and cultural events for a nominal charge. Events like these provide you the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie with other members in a more relaxed atmosphere. Social Functions are included in your membership for a nominal charge.
Continuing Legal Education
We host a CLE annually. Members receive one hour of ethics and one hour of professionalism. CLE may be attended by pre-registering and paying a fee.
Members may search the online directory for other members by name, law firm, law school, city, county or by area of practice. This is a great way to refer business to each other, carpool to LCA events or simply find that fellow law school mate for reminiscing at the next Lawyers Club of Atlanta event. ABA Retirement Funds specializes in providing profit sharing and 401K retirement plans for legal affiliated firms and/or companies with a small number of employees at no cost to the employer. Members may contact ABA Retirement Funds at 800-826-8901 for a personal consultation.
If there is one party in Atlanta that you don’t want to miss, it is our Annual Holiday Party. As a member, you will receive an invitation for you and one guest to join us for cocktails, decadent food and live music at an incredible venue. The Holiday Party is included in your membership at no additional cost.
Use of Club
As a member, you will enjoy use of the Club’s headquarters located in midtown Atlanta. Enjoy a libation after work and prior to dinner, get away for a quiet lunch, kill some time while waiting for traffic to clear, reserve a room for a deposition and/or mediation, or surf the internet using our wireless network. Guests or non-members are welcome to accompany a member when using the club. Dress is business casual. The entire club may be reserved for private parties of up to 100 people when the Club is not generally open to members. During normal Club hours, members may reserve the back part of the Club for up to 50 people. Please contact Stephanie at email@example.com for more information.
Each year, we accept two classes of new members, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. We welcome applications from lawyers who have been practicing (including teaching and clerkships) for at least 48 months prior to application, who are members of the State Bar of Georgia in good standing (Associate Membership may be available for members not admitted to the Georgia Bar), and who reside or maintain offices in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Attorneys who reside in other counties may apply for Non-Resident membership.
The Next Application Deadline is 3pm on Friday, October 6, 2023.
Attorneys who wish to apply for membership must submit the application along with the one-time initiation fee in the amount of $400.00 (see below for payment options) by the application deadline, which usually falls on the first Friday in April for the Spring class and the first Friday in October for the Fall class. Applications may be submitted electronically. The prospective member must also obtain three (3) letters of recommendation and one (1) sponsor letter, all from current Lawyers Club members in good standing. The letters may be attached to the online application, or the letters may be submitted directly to the Executive Director by regular mail or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Upon receipt of your complete application, you will be notified about a series of “group interviews” held at the Club’s headquarters with members of the Executive Committee and Membership Committee. It is your responsibility to attend one of these interview receptions, or make alternative interview arrangements. Failure to timely complete the interview process may result in your application being removed from consideration.
After the interview receptions are all completed, the proposed members’ names are submitted to the entire membership and voted on by secret ballot. After the prospective members are accepted, they will be notified by email from the President of Lawyers Club and may then enjoy all of the privileges of membership. Additionally, the new members are formally inducted at the first available cocktail reception after admittance (generally the April cocktail reception for the fall class and the October cocktail reception for the spring class).
Because we operate on a fiscal year beginning July 1, members who apply in the Fall will be required to pay half-year dues in January. Members who apply in the Spring will be required to pay full year dues in July. There is an initiation fee of $400 that is required with all applications and is refundable if for any reason the applicant is not admitted to the Club. You may pay this fee by mailing a check made payable to Lawyers Club of Atlanta to the Executive Director at 1230 Peachtree Street, NE, Promenade Building, Suite 3850, Atlanta, Georgia 30309 OR via credit card at www.lawyersclubofatlanta.org/payments. Just know that a small fee of roughly 3.4% will be charged on any credit card payments.
Annual dues are currently $400 for Resident Members and $325 for Non-Resident members.
